The godfather of survival-horror games is now revealing tons of juicy information faster than one can keep up. Not to worry folks, we've got you covered.
Capcom's next installment of the Resident Evil franchise is changing not just its locations, but also adding new characters and enemies. Probably the biggest surprise in RE 6 is the fact that Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield are both going to be the main protagonists. Fans of Resident Evil know darn well that these two have never even remotely been in the same game. Ever. That's why this is already getting us hyped for the sequel as well as more details. Leon has been hired by President Adam Benford after his brave survival of the Raccoon City incident. With his associate and teammate, Helena Harper, they plan to rid of all bioterrorism they may face. It should also be pointed out that the announcement trailer has Helena confessing that the outbreak was her fault. With the help of his trusty assisstant Hunnigan (reprising her role from RE 4), he is to work with Helena Harper to get to the bottom of the outbreak.Another warrior in the fight against bioterrorism is none other than Chris Redfield, who has chosen to continue his endeavors in fighting B.O.W.'s as being a leader in the BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance). However, Chris has suffered a personal traumatic experience six months before RE 6. Trying to keep a clear conscience, he travels with his squad to a fictional city in China called "Lanshiang" in 2013, the year RE 6 takes place in. It is also revealed that in the announcement trailer, Chris is seen having a deep argument with a specific squadmate. His colleague then reminds Chris to put his "personal vendetta" aside, which suggests that he may have a significance in the plot.
The next main character in RE 6 is an interesting one. His name has yet to be revealed but he appears to be a mercenary with superhuman strength abilities while trying to eliminate a widespread of B.O.W.'s in Eastern Europe. He was told that he is to save the world some day, but instead of trying to figure out its true meaning, he focuses on making big cash out of it. This is just a theory, but I believe that he may be one of the "Wesker children" from Spencer's (president of the infamous bioterrorist company, Umbrella) experiments. Aside from his abilities, the trailer also shows that he must inject himself with a vaccine of some sorts that looks similar to that of Albert Wesker's - the only Wesker though to have survived Spencer's tests- virus vaccines in RE 5. Again, this is just a theory but there is evidence that suggests that he can be one the "Wesker" children. The mercenary also seems to have a partner of his own as well. She also has yet to be named but rumors suggest that she is either Sherry Birkin from RE 2, or Ashley Grahm from RE 4. While they are both blondes, its hard to tell which it can be assuming it's not a new character. My money is on it being Ashely since she sounds very familiar.
As far as enemies go, the zombies have returned to the series at long last. This time around, the zombies are more ferocious and seem like the violent, fast type seen in games such as Left 4 Dead. The zombies may also carry weapons, jump at you, and of course, attack in numbers. There has been a reveal of a new enemy called a "J'avo". The name appears to be the equivilant word for "demon in the Serbian language. These unpredictable foes still maintain some human qualities such as being able to understand language, work in unison, regenerate health, and split into multiple forms the more you deal damage to it. This forces the player to think quickly on his/her feet and that's exactly what a good RE monster does.
As the enemies have gotten an upgrade, so do you. The control scheme has grown to help the player have easier access and fluidity to the environment such as being able to shoot while moving, the ability to slide and roll, and more. Also, there may be a partner to help you on certain missions seeing as all three protagonists seem to have a mutual relationship with another, for example, Leon and Helena. Keep in mind that Xbox.com has also unofficially, and maybe accidentally, confirmed that RE 6 will have six-player co-op.
These are many details, but there is more to be revealed in the coming months until its November launch.
Resident Evil 6 will be released November 20, 2012 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A PC version is to follow up soon after.
