Rumor: Next PlayStation Called "Orbis"

alt

Is this the PlayStation 4 we've been hearing about?

Our friends at Kotaku have found out that the successor to the PlayStation 3 might be called "Orbis". Oh, but it gets better.

As this rumor has surfaced, a Sony spokesman didn't confirm or deny this claim as they are not supposed to comment on "rumors and speculation".

As far as the name goes, Orbis is latin for "circle", or "ring". Its also interesting to note that "Vita" in the Playstation Vita is latin for "circle of life". This might suggest that the new Sony handheld can have an important role with the "Orbis". Its also possible that this can just be a codename such as how the Vita was originally named "NGP". For all we know, they can change the name back into the Playstation 4 much later on.

The Orbis is rumored to use an AMD x64 CPU and AMD Southern Islands GPU. These specs will guarentee that the games can be played on 3D TV's on 1080p (the PS3 can only play them on 720p).

There are also rumors that "Orbis" WILL NOT be backwards compatible, and that it will reject used games. This will likely upset a lot of people off but again, these are rumors as well as the rest of all this. This is all we know for now but expect to know more in the coming months.
