Highlights
The studio head of Treyarch, Mark Lamia, first took the stage saying that the refocused the entire studio to accomplish this game and "We basically went all in." He said that ince the beginning of development, has poured their heart and souls into making the best damn game we've ever done. What was shown was an entirely new version of multiplayer for Call of Duty.Being the best of the best, the guys in Black Ops had the freedom to choose the weapons and equipment that were used on their missions. This fit in perfectly with COD multiplayer.
Bunting says that the three pillars of Black Ops are Compete, Customize and Create.
Competition mode is fierce and rugged but by far the most satisfying. There will be tons of new weapons, killstreaks and perks to get you what you need on the battlefield.
A new offline multiplayer mode, Combat Training, lets you practise on 'bots', and can be played co-op with a friend with it's own ranking. When you've had enough training you can then head over to online. Originally, Combat Training was not a planned feature from the beginning. It was designed to test weapon damage and then decided it would be a great addition.
Bunting says, "You cannot make a COD game without bringing a bunch of crazy awesome new killstreaks." The Killstreaks are intended to have some level of player interaction.
Call of Duty Point - COD Points - CP are the new form of currency in Black Ops which you earn every time that you play. They are then used to purchase level unlocks; what you want, when you want.
You can can purchase "Contracts" which are time limited challenges that return multiples of the cost back when you complete them. Any kind of contracts can be created such as Operations, Specialist or Mercenary. This way, you invest in your own, personal style of play and get paid for it.
This sounds interesting - Wager Match - where you use your CP to bet against other players and the top three players win the pool. There are four separate games types:
One in the Chamber: everybody gets one bullet in a pistol - only a pistal - and three live. When you kill someone, you get their bullet. If you miss, you have to knife them.
Sticks and Stones - You get to use a Crossbow, tomahawk and ballistic knife.
Gun Game was a request straight from the community that they decided to add. There is a sequence of weapon progression and every kill moves you up in the level of weapons - first a pistol, two pistols, shotgun and so forth.
In Sharp Shooter all players start with the same random weapon, and then the weapons all change at intervals. Everyone always have the types of weapons.
Vahn said that Wager Matches creates natural tension and it’s really fun to take someone’s money.”
Pillar 2 is Customization. There are new camouflage patterns and you can create your own emblem which can be placed on all your equipment, especially your weapon - or gun. The color of the reticule can be changed and it doesn't have to be red either; or a dot.
There are snow levels, jungle levels, urban areas.
Pillar 3 is Create.
