Online Game WAKFU Released Date Announced

Online game WAKFU will be released on the 29th February 2012

WAKFU, the MMORPG currently in open beta, will be released in less than a month. Almost 8 years after the launch of DOFUS – whose evolution and development continue to thrive – Ankama is launching a second massively multiplayer online game set in the same universe. Whilst WAKFU retains some of the basic features seen in DOFUS, gameplay is governed by player responsibility this time around, and the familiar comic and strategic aspects of DOFUS are accompanied by exclusive political and environmental elements.

In addition to this announcement, Ankama is pleased to present the second video in the “Dev Diary” series, in which members of the WAKFU team explore specific aspects of the game and the methods used in their development. Following a first video based on the power given to players, the second Dev Diary episode deals with the theme of the different monsters and enemies you’ll come up against in WAKFU. Game designer Azael and level designer Jimmy explain the ways in which the game’s creatures can influence players’ experience of WAKFU.

Following the success of DOFUS, which since its creation in 2004 has attracted several million players and made its way into Europe’s top 5 online games, Ankama has created WAKFU, a new gaming experience based in the same universe.

The various character classes and the turn-based, tactical combat system have been reviewed and adapted… and WAKFU takes it that one step further by offering a gaming experience with unique ecological and political elements.

In WAKFU, only the players can decide what will happen to their world.
Choose a Nation, defend it, conquer territories, vote, respect laws (or not), become Governor… Everything is down to the players. They’ll have to deal with the consequences of their choices, politically speaking but also in terms of the ecosystem. Will they choose to preserve their natural resources or exploit them? And what impact will each player’s decisions have on the evolution of their character and their Nation…?

In WAKFU, the economy is managed entirely by the players.
The exchange, purchase and sale of items will take place between players alone (with no NPCs involved). To make this system possible, sixteen professions are available to players. You’ll have to juggle mastering recipes, managing your network of suppliers effectively and setting fair prices if you want to become a top merchant!

And, of course, WAKFU offers all the characteristics of a classic MMORPG: combat, PvP, RvR (Nation against Nation), challenges, achievements, dungeons, marketplaces, in-game events and much, much more!

Just like DOFUS, WAKFU is packed with off-the-wall humour and infinite cultural references. You won’t find another game where players can explore Traff Algar Square, catch some rays in Bilbyza or chat to Gnarled Barklee and Jonk Lees…

The WAKFU Story

It’s almost 1,000 years since the start of the Dofus Age and the World of Twelve is in ruins! Ogrest’s Chaos has wreaked utter havoc: from floods to earthquakes and tidal waves. Fortunately, all is not lost. Heroes are emerging on the battered land, driven by a new hope. To rebuild their world, they’ll need courage and the strength to make serious decisions. Will they succeed in mastering Wakfu, the primordial energy of the universe, and track down Ogrest?
